Gameover Can't Create Shortcuts

I installed Sparky Gameover earlier today and I can't for the life of me figure out how to create a shortcut on the desktop. I know you can right-click and Send to Desktop, but that just places the shortcut in /home/myusername/desktop/, which doesn't actually get displayed on the desktop screen (I didn't create a separate Home partition during install if that matters). Drag and drop doesn't work either. I'm assuming I'm missing something simple, but all of my background is Windows related so I can't seem to figure it out.

I also can't figure out how to edit a read-only file (40_custom) since os-prober and grub can't seem to locate my Windows partition automatically (on a different disk, which has been mounted) so for now I have to manually change boot priority in the BIOS to switch from one OS to the other, but based on searching online I should be able to add a few lines of text to the 40_custom file to fix that...if I could only figure out how to edit the file.

Thanks in advance.

All Special Editions uses Openbox window manager as default - it does not support desktop icons out of the box.

Solutions:
1. Use 'idesk' :
https://wiki.debian.org/idesk
2. or install a desktop environment, via APTus -> Desktop for example, such as LXDE or others, then reboot and choose a new desktop from a login screen.

Thanks. Apparently iDesk is already installed. Too bad I can't figure out how to use it.

As far as my second question, I figured out how to edit the grub "40_custom" file, but I still can't get it to recognize my Win 10 OS. Maybe I am not meant to be a Linux user.

On the plus side, I have done Windows tech support my entire adult life so I can always just go back to what I know...if I have to.

Edit: Looks like I was able to figure out iDesk. Still no idea on the dual boot issue. Oh well. Baby steps.

PCManFM (file manager in LXDE) will manage the desktop wallpapers and icons, etc...

As pavroo says, install LXDE and you're good to go.  From naked Openbox environment, autostart pcmanfm in daemon mode pcmanfm -d and pcmanfm manages desktop wallpapers & icons even if pcmanfm isn't open.
