Note:  I would caution against using the Ubuntu ppa  Please - don't create a Frankendebian as my sig mentions.

If you wish to follow the webpage above, I would use the Debian section and utilize dpkg as suggested.

But Looking at backports
https://packages.debian.org/stretch-backports/libreoffice
1:6.1.1~rc1-2~bpo9+1 and others    would be 6.1

To learn about backports
https://wiki.debian.org/Backports        ## Yes Sparky4 is built on top of Debian Stretch.

For me presently
paxmark@raunes:~$ aptitude show libreoffice-base
Package: libreoffice-base
Version: 1:5.2.7-1+deb9u4
State: installed

running  "sudo apt install -s -t stretch-backports libreoffice"

or
"sudo aptitude -s -t stretch-backports install libreoffice libreoffice-math"
##somehow it borks on libreoffice-math and aptitude will prompt you to also add libreoffice-math

Both are 175 mb downloads that will swell to 310 mb

The "-s" switch allows you to experiment.  It is a simulation.  To do the actual installation - just remove the -s
Backports can also be done by synaptic.

I am working an insane amount of hours and moving dad this weekend to assisted living.  If anyone does use backports and it works out perfectly - please post a reply.  I can play with Libreoffice 6 on my Sparky5 in virtualbox  or in my netbook in Sparky5 also.  I wish you well.  People with more experience and knowledge than me strongly suggest not using Ubuntu ppa's  The fork in the road between Ubuntu and Debian widens with each passing year.  Using the LibreOffice tarball and then utilizing dpkg should also work, but I prefer Backorts when I can use them.
