Failed to start Login Service after (failed?) upgrade

After a (possibly failed unantended) upgrade I am getting
Failed to start login service
Failed to start accounts services etc

Is there any way to repair the system?

Thank you, but that requires the ability to log-in, which I don't have! Loging-in in repair mode, which is still possible, the dpkg does not recognize --reconfigure!

You are right, there was a mistake, should be:

Code Select Expand

dpkg --configure -a
try again to fix broken packages.
