"aptitude search equalize"
"aptitude show pulseaudio-equalizer"
Search forum for "More info easier via inxi"    If requested -  no inxi, no help for you by  me.

Good players generally include equalizers.  For example, vlc under "Show extended settings" has 3 controls:  Equalizer, Compressor and Spatializer:

The Equalizer offers presets by genre.

I have no experience with pulseaudio equalizer, because on my set-up (openbox) it requires an additional 41 packages installed or upgraded, which involves 43 MB additional space.

I have written a client for Xmms2 for which I had to code my own equalizer (requested by user) but as with anything xmms2 related I was lucky enough to find some good examples to learn from. I don't know why nobody has thought to have this sort of setting in standard audio settings though, I'm sure it would be popular.
