Wifi issues following 32-bit EFI install on Lenovo S100 Ideapad

Hi all,

Very happy to discover that Sparky supports 32-bit EFI installation. My install went very smoothly today except for wifi, which tells me "no network devices availalbe." I'm hoping it's a minor driver issue but when I run "LSPCI | grep Network" I see no output. I didn't think to check my internal wireless network adapter specs before wiping windows; the Lenovo website only states "WiFi 1 x 1 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth® 4.0". I'm hoping not to have to buy a wifi dongle but I will if I need it. The 100s does not have a wired ethernet option so it's wireless or nothing.

Any help is very much appreciated. Thanks!

"lspci"  Linux is case sensitive.  Or maybe you have to use sudo or do as root

Post the wireless part of "sudo lspci -v"

I believe lspci will not post for --verbal -v without being sudoed.

and if you have inxi you could post "inxi -n"
Search forum for "More info easier via inxi"    If requested -  no inxi, no help for you by  me.

Thanks for the response. I see no output related to wireless when I run "sudo lspci -v". I don't seem to have inxi.

Yeah, Mark slaps head, of course you can not have inxi as you have no internet.

Are you running lspci in a terminal?

For me as "root"  in a terminal and typing the command "lspci -v"   (or as a normal user type "sudo lspci -v")          on  this machine I get

You might want to type it as "lspci -v | less"  and hit the space bar until you get to the point near the end where the wireless section is.   Adding "| less" pipes the output out to your screen one screenful at a time.

Is this an Intel Bay Trail system?  I hear some are quite difficult.  The quite modern kernel in Sparky via testing is better than trying it with a kernel from stable.  You will also have newer firmware for your wireless.

Thanks again for the response! Appreciate the help. I actually have less than a screen's worth of output when I run lspci (and yes, I'm running as root in a terminal). All I see are 5 outputs all of which refer to the processor (Lenovo Atom) as a subsystem. Nothing related to wireless appears.

Yeah this is the infamous Bay Trail system. I was hoping that since Sparky can install on a 32-bit EFI machine out of the box, that I would have better luck than I had with several other distros I tried.

I will try the testing version as you suggest and will report back.

paxmark1

You ARE on testing.  98% of what you have is Debian testing.  Stay with Sparky still.

Debian will say, install via stable and then dist-upgrade to testing.   You do NOT want to be starting out in that old kernel with stable with BayTrail.   And another mantra of Debian is  "The testing cd is only to test the testing cd  The testing cd is only to test the testing cd."        Most of the alpha testing cd's will fail.  Stick with what you have via the Sparky installer.  Besides I am not sure the Debian stable cd works well with uefi.

Edit   10 minutes later:   as "root journalctl -b -0 | grep net"  and post. That will let us know if you you have a wifi driver loaded.  Entire log can be seen via "journalctl -b - 0

Which desktop are you using.

OK thanks--got confused. I am still running the same version of Sparky (honestly not sure how to check the version/desktop but I think 4.3 LXDE--although it has just occurred to me now that my desktop does not state "home edition" under "SparkyLinux").

Below is the output of running "journalctl -b -0 | grep net" as root. I should note that I am currently connected via a wired tether (my iphone) so not sure if that affects the output below.
