The new Chromium (50.0.2661.75) that entered unstable is part of a trend (I believe) of chromium abandoning using the ffmpeg libraries on your system for their own ffmpeg analogs.  The result that hit early adopters (sid  - unstable) was a "SNAP" page that you could try and reload the pages that froze, and after the second try sends information to Google about why it dnw (does not work).  You can also send a message to Megan.  Debian has assigned a grave threat to it, if you have apt-get listbugs installed, you will be warned.  NO, it has not gone to testing yet, and looking at the amount of traction and comments so far (very few) it might be awhile.

Another interesting bug for chromium is https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=792580   Will have to see if Chromium gets a little ""bit too big for it's britches" - i.e too fat for it's pants.

Firefox is a little slower for me, but I am using it more these days.
Search forum for "More info easier via inxi"    If requested -  no inxi, no help for you by  me.

I personally use Chrome exclusively. I don't even have firefox installed. Why? Well two major reasons:

1. The embedded flash in Chrome is MUCH more current (v21 vs v11 in firefox)
2. Chrome is still the only browser that allows Netflix to be watched out of the box

It is a memory hog for sure, but if you have enough memory it shouldn't be a concern. I have 8GB and I have seen Chrome suck as much as 1.5GB when really putting it through its paces.

So are you running Chromium or actual Chrome.  I'm new and I do prefer Chrome over Firefox.  My computer has 16GB of RAM so i'm not worried about chrome being a memory hog.  If it's actual chrome, did you build it from source or is there a repo that can be added?  Thanks.

It is actual chrome. Chromium does not work for DRM content playback such as Netflix provides. I used the chrome .deb download right from Google's website and installed it. It adds the chrome repo when installed so it will get updates. It is as easy to install in Debian as in Windows :)

Just download the .deb (for 64-bit only now) here:
