Hello guys I have recently purchased an HP Envy 17 with Nvidia Optimus technology. I would like to ask you what is the best solution to use both graphic cards optimally. Does the driver 331.38 provided by Nvidia for Linux would be enough and does it support the Optimus by default? Does it switch the cards automatically or I would need to do this manually?

Most people says that I should go for Bumblebee but I also heard that sometimes this solution causing overheating.

I don't want to use Windows 8 for my personal stuff and booting Linux from Live (persistent) USB isn't an option for me either.

Hi

I also heard that Bumblebee provides support for NVIDIA Optimus laptops:

wiki.debian.org/Bumblebee

But I never touched it myself, sorry.

Don't know, can you provide a result of 'lspci' command?
