I see no topic labeled Sparky Ultra Openbox / JWM (which I have adopted as my main system) and thought it might be useful to create a sticky Sparky Ultra Openbox / JWM topic area within the Desktop category.

I can say that having used it daily for a couple of weeks it seems more responsive and stable than my previous version (Mate) and is capable of the same functions, once one becomes familiar with it.

As a Sparky Ultra Openbox user I'd like to know:

Is a 3.3 version going to be released any time soon?

and

What's the difference between Sparky Ultra Openbox and the Base 3.3 edition?

TIA

This is the end of Ultra Edition.

It means I will not be publishing updated iso images.

But it's fully based on Debian testing so if you like it just keep it up to date.

It'll be working as long as Debian team provides updates for all the packages.

Differences?

Ultra Edition features a large set of tools and applications, similar to all Sparky Editions.

Base provides only Openbox desktop and a few tools to let users build their own desktop on the top of Debian base.

I'm sorry to hear that you have decided to discontinue developing the Sparky Ultra Openbox edition and wonder why you arrived at that decision.

Also, since 3.2 is the last version, what are the differences between Sparky 3.2 & 3.3, in general?

TIA

There are two reasons:

1. Ultra Edition and LXDE Edition are very similar. Both of them use Openbox and consume similar amount of power, but the LXDE desktop is more easy to configure and to use.

2. I don't have enough time to keep developing so many editions now. All my attention I will put to the new installer so it is a priority now.

You can find differences between Sparky 3.2 and 3.3 in the release notes:

When will a new SparkyBackup-System be ready?  Will it be put in the repositories of v. 3.3 or will it be included in the next version?

TIA

There is already. I noticed about that in the last release notes.

Update package list and install 'sparky-backup-sys' version 0.1.6.

As a Sparky Ultra Openbox user (a discontinued version although everything continues to function properly on this desktop computer) who noticed that version 3.5 is now available of Sparky Base Openbox;

I can't help but wonder whether doing a system update and or upgrade (or upgrading or adding specific files) would be advisable and any recommendation from the developer will be appreciated.

That is the reason for this post.  Thanks in advance, Pavroo.
