Hi all,

i'm still messing with the office trashbin (pentium D 1600, 512 MB ram, GF440mx etc)

i think i have issues with kernels:

"old" kernel often halts at "waiting for /dev to be fully populated" so that i have to reboot till it passes that step (oh well from a google search it seems that debian testing does this)

"new" kernel goes beyond it, but soon after network string all i get is a blinking underscore on a blank screen

i quickly checked grub entries by pressing e, but at a first look they do not seem to differ each from the other..

is there any way i can improve the booting?

It difficult to say, I didn't see any problem by now, it can be graphical driver issue on new kernel, sorry.

i've had some time to make some test in office, and besides a chipset cooler which literally jumped out of the case i could achieve this http://www.federproprietaabruzzo.it/Carlo/filetemp/Xorg.office.log" class="bbcode_url">http://www.federproprietaabruzzo.it/Carlo/filetemp/Xorg.office.log

in brief the blinking underscore seems to be something which is connected with lightdm, while i installed kdm and i was given textual login, and when i said startx x failed to initialize and told me to check the log for more detailed info
